What does CBC measure?
It measures different blood cell:
- RBC count (Red Blood Cell): It is also known as erythrocytes. It carries oxygen throughout your body. It contains hemoglobin which transfers oxygen to your whole body.
- White Blood Cell (WBC): It is also known as leukocytes or leucocytes. It is a part of the body's immune system. It helps the body to fight germs.
- Hemoglobin (Hb or Hgb): It is a protein in blood that holds oxygen.
- Hematocrit (Hct): It counts how much blood is made of red blood cells.
- Platelets count: It measures the number of platelets in blood.It help to stop blood clots.
How can I get a complete blood count?
The CBC (complete blood cell) is a very common and important test. It can be performed during routine health examinations.
What should you didn't do before CBC?
You should wear short sleeve clothes that can easily roll up. You can eat or drink before taking the CBC test. It may have been recommended by your doctors to have fast before some specific amount of tests.
Can a CBC test be done with an empty stomach?
It is not necessary to have fasting before CBC test unless you have any other test other than CBC.
What should I expect after the test?
The arms from where blood has been taken, may have a little sore for a few hours. You should have bandages secure with tape on your arm.
