If you have some of the symptoms of liver disease such as Jaundice, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, dark colored urine, light-colored stool, fatigue.
What happens during LFT?
A professional healthcare will take a blood sample from a vein in your arm using a small needle. Blood will be collected in the test tube. This will take few minutes.
What are the most common Liver tests?
The common liver function tests are:
- Alanine Transaminase(ALT) test: If the liver is damaged or not functioning properly. It can be released into the blood.
- Aspartate aminotransferase Test(AST): is an enzyme found in the body including heart, liver and muscles.
- Alkaline Phosphatase test(ALP): It is typically ordered in combination with several other tests.
- Bilirubin Test: It is a waste product from breakdown of red blood cells. It is processed by the liver.
- Albumin Test: is the main protein made by the liver. It performs many important body functions.
What are the risks of liver function tests?
It is a routine procedure by taking blood. It rarely has any side-effects like bleeding under skin, excessive bleeding, Fainting, infection.
